Hydrogen Peroxide--Your Answer To Many Farm Challenges 

What do you think of when you hear the words hydrogen peroxide? Most likely you think of the 3% hydrogen peroxide that you can purchase in the drug store or discount stores that is used as a topical antiseptic on cut and wounds. It is a very effective disinfectant to clean up that cut or wound and promote faster healing. This household variety has also been used as a mouthwash or gargle to lessen the effects of a sore throat.

We want you to start thinking about hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in another way. Hydrogen peroxide can do many things in agriculture as well. For crops it can be foliar fed to alfalfa fields to speed up the healing process from cutting and thus increasing the number of cuttings per year. Hydrogen peroxide can also help control white mold in soybeans and is found to be an excellent growth promoter sterilant treatment for any and all plants. It clearly promotes protein growth and stimulates carbon dioxide fixation. At 1 pint of 34% H2O2/20 gal of water, it can prevent frost damage down to 23 degrees Fahrenheit.

For now, we would like to concentrate on the benefits of hydrogen peroxide for livestock. We do not have university research in this area so we can only report testimonials. The reason there is no university research is because hydrogen peroxide has been around for over 100 years and cannot be patented. Obviously no company is willing to spend the thousands of dollars necessary for research on a very inexpensive solution with no guarantees of marketing rights.

General Information

The hydrogen peroxide that we handle is 34% concentration which is much stronger than the 3% concentration you can buy in the stores. This fact has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the cost is about one-half that of the peroxide found in the stores. The disadvantage is because the concentration is above 8% it is considered a hazardous chemical. For that reason, the 34% hydrogen peroxide must be handled with care. In another section, we list the storage and handling instructions.
